Wasatch Fly Tying & Fly Fishing Expo

Three days of on-the-water tutorials, fly tying, fly fishing education, exhibitors, destination travel, conservation, and community—all in support of conservation.

On-the-water workshops begin Thursday, April 8, giving anglers hands-on instruction before the main Expo floor opens.

What you’ll find at the Expo

Fly Tying Theater Live demonstrations from skilled fly tyers showcasing effective patterns and techniques in the Fly Tying Theater. Learn directly from experienced anglers as they present proven methods and share insights you can take to the water.

On the Show Floor – Dozens of Fly Tyers Throughout the Expo, dozens of fly tyers will be tying at their stations on the show floor. Watch a wide variety of patterns being created and take advantage of the opportunity to ask questions, discuss techniques, and connect one-on-one with talented tyers.

Utah’s Iron Fly Competition
Twelve top fly tyers will face off in a fast-paced challenge, creating flies in just 15 minutes using mystery materials provided by Cheech from Fly Fish Food. Up to three rounds will be judged by a panel of experts. Join the excitement in the Fly Tying Theater and cheer on your favorite tyer.

On-the-Water Workshops
Held on Thursday at local fisheries, these hands-on sessions place you in real fishing situations with experienced instructors. Focus on practical techniques like presentation, line control, reading water, and stillwater strategies. Learn by doing—applying skills directly on the water for immediate improvement.

Casting Clinics
Improve accuracy, distance, and efficiency with focused casting instruction. These clinics cover fundamentals and advanced techniques including loop control, mending, double haul, and presentation. Ideal for all skill levels, from beginners building a solid foundation to experienced anglers refining their technique.

Classroom Workshops
Non-stop, In-depth sessions held during the Expo covering fly tying, stillwater tactics, river strategies, gear selection, and more. Led by knowledgeable instructors, these workshops provide detailed instruction, demonstrations, and the opportunity to ask questions and build a deeper understanding of the sport.

Expo Banquet & Hall of Fame Induction
Join us for a special evening celebrating the Utah Fly Fishing Hall of Fame Inductions, honoring individuals who have made lasting contributions to the sport and to conservation in Utah.
